As Germany’s premier resource university, the Technical University Bergakademie Freiberg orients much of its research and education toward the responsible management of the Earth’s finite resources. The university develops more efficient systems and alternative technologies for raw material extraction, energy technology, materials, and recycling processes, thus making significant contributions to the resolution of economic and ecological challenges. As a future-oriented technical university, the TU Bergakademie Freiberg embraces the task of forging sustainable materials and energy industries. By successfully marrying engineering sciences with the natural, geological, material and economic sciences, the university creates a foundation for promoting modern raw-material research and for applied research & development. With approximately 65 courses of study (including 13 for the renowned German academic degree of Diplomingenieur), over 4,600 students obtain a first-rate practical education underpinned by a solid foundation in the sciences. Close co-operation between the TU Bergakademie Freiberg and industry means that students can avail of internships and carry out assignments with the university’s industrial partners, up to and including the realization of sponsored doctoral studies.
